Mapping and remapping your motorcycle is about tuning it to the limit of its potential. Your engine’s performance parts act together with precision timing and control to produce the best possible ride – so when one part underperforms, the whole bike can be impacted. Mapping (and remapping) your bike’s control (ECU Maps) unit gives you full control of the engine’s performance.
How To Achieve Peak Performance From a Motorcycle
Your dyno tuner can tweak the major processes, but to fine-tune your motorcycle to its limit, you need to take control of your bike’s “brain” with ECU Flashing. Not all ECU Flash options are created equal. The extent to which you can map your bike’s performance processes depends on the quality of the flashing kit and the number of processes you can control.
Dyno Mapping or DIY ECU Mapping?

Visiting the dyno tuner for regular tune-ups means your bike is always performing better, and you can know in advance if any of your engine’s parts are in decline or failing.
Learn more about dyno tuner motorcycle tuning maps.
Your dyno tuner can also flash your ECU with software that allows them to remap the factory settings on your bike to be the ultimate ride for you. The software they choose will have a major impact on how well your bike responds.
Woolich Racing Kit gives you the BIN files – the “clean slate” for you or your dyno tuner to create new maps that meet your performance expectations and unlock your bike’s true limits. We use partner dyno tuners to do installs and set-ups for you. Or if you prefer, you can enrol in our free course and do it yourself, whenever you feel like it.
ECU Mapping on the Dyno vs with an ECU Flash
On the dyno, your ECU maps are responding to the conditions in the dyno tuner’s studio. These can’t account for humidity, altitude, the way you ride, traffic, terrain and several other key factors that are unique to you and your bike. This means map adjustments done on the dyno won’t necessarily line up with your ride on the road.
With an ECU Flash, you can adjust the maps yourself as often as you like. You can also use Woolich Autotune to generate maps in real-time, based on the data you gather while riding. You can then make manual adjustments to optimize your ride and tune your bike to its limit.
Standard Dyno Tuning Maps
Your dyno tuner will provide you with a few key tuning maps. Some additional ones are only possible once you’ve flashed your ECU. Depending on the software your dyno tuner is using, your maps will have varying results, and the depth of the information available will be different. Always remember that the best remapping done on the dyno won’t be exactly the same on the street or the track.
Standard Motorcycle Fuel Maps
With motorcycle fuel mapping, you can adjust the amount of fuel delivered to your engine at different throttle positions, load conditions and at different RPMs. This includes adjusting a series of different points where fuel is fed through your engine. The main adjustment is to your fuel injection system and can include adjusting your air-fuel ratio.
Benefits of adjusting the fuelling system
- Quicker throttle response.
- More power and torque.
- Better fuel efficiency.
- Improved acceleration.
- Smoother performance across all RPM bands.
Problems with adjusting the fuelling system
- Your bike performs differently on a dyno than it does on the track or road.
- Location, altitude, and humidity all impact your bike’s fuel needs.
- Your dyno tuner may only provide rudimentary information about your motorcycle’s ECU fuel mapping. Your fuel’s supply, air mix, force, combustion, and exhaust all play pivotal roles in bike performance. Knowing precisely where your fuelling system is mistiming or underperforming will impact your engine’s performance.

Standard Motorcycle Ignition Mapping
Motorcycle ignition mapping measures the timing of the spark plugs igniting the air and fuel mixture in the engine’s combustion chamber.
Benefits of tweaking ignition timing
- Greater throttle response.
- More power output.
- Greater engine efficiency.
Problems with tweaking ignition timing
- Aftermarket parts can greatly impact the adjustments needed.
- Each type of spark plug requires different optimization.
- Your bike is not exactly the same as every other bike. The way you ride, the wear and tear on your spark plugs and combustion chamber, your injection system – these can all play a major role in the bike’s efficiencies.
Standard Motorcycle Lambda Sensor Mapping
Lambda sensors measure your motorcycle’s air-fuel ratio and combustion efficiency in real-time. They feed information back to your ECU in real-time so that your bike can make adjustments on the fly.
Benefits of adjusting lambda sensors
- You can optimize for maximum fuel efficiency.
- Get real-time data about your bike’s performance, allowing for adaptive tuning.
Problems with adjusting lambda sensors
- Lambda sensors are hardworking motorcycle parts that need regular maintenance and may require regular replacement. A poorly operating lambda sensor can have a noticeably negative impact on your ride.
- Lambda sensors are used to minimize emissions and can cause halting and juddering during acceleration and in cruise mode. On the racetrack, you may opt to bypass the lambda sensor feedback loop to ensure maximum performance, regardless of emissions. Learn more about Open and Closed Loop Motorcycle Modes.
